José Carlos Martinat (b. 1974, Lima, Peru) is an artist whose practice examines language, political discourse and systems of communication through processes of appropriation, fragmentation and material transformation.

Working across installation, sculpture, print, video and public intervention, he draws from newspapers, advertising, street graphics and political slogans. His practice reconfigures these materials through repetition, distortion and displacement within systems of communication, political representation and collective memory.

Martinat has exhibited internationally, including presentations at the Venice Biennale; Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), Lima; Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA), Buenos Aires; and institutions and galleries across Latin America, Europe and the United States.
